A small, focused team based in Wales. We have been building machine learning systems since 2018 and have no plans to stop.

How we got here

Pro AI Counsel started in 2018 when our founder, Siân Griffith, left a data-science role at a London fintech to move back to Wales. She had spent four years building fraud-detection models and wanted to bring that same technical rigour to businesses closer to home: manufacturers, logistics firms, public-sector bodies and growing tech companies across south and west Wales.

The first year was just Siân and a laptop. She took on three projects: a churn-prediction model for a Swansea telecoms reseller, a route-optimisation tool for a haulage company in Carmarthen and a pilot chatbot for a local council. All three went into production. All three are still running, with updates.

By mid-2020 the workload outpaced one person. Gareth Pryce joined to handle data engineering, and Nia Bowen came on board for NLP. The team has grown to seven since then, but we have kept the structure flat. Everyone writes code. Everyone talks to clients.

What we believe

These are not slogans painted on the wall. They are the rules we use to make decisions when a project gets complicated.

Honesty over revenue

If a simpler, cheaper solution exists, we recommend it. We have talked clients out of AI projects and helped them implement a basic automation instead. That costs us short-term revenue but earns long-term trust.

Ownership stays with you

Every model, dataset and pipeline we build belongs to the client. Full source code, training-data references and documentation ship with every project. No proprietary wrappers, no vendor lock-in.

Production or nothing

A model sitting in a Jupyter notebook helps nobody. We scope every engagement with deployment in mind from the first week. If we cannot see a clear path to production, we say so before any money changes hands.

Teach, do not just deliver

We want your internal team to understand what we built. Every project includes at least two knowledge-transfer sessions. If your developers can maintain the system without us after six months, we have done our job properly.

Founder and lead data scientist. Formerly at a London fintech. Specialises in supervised learning and time-series forecasting. Holds an MSc in machine learning from Edinburgh.

Gareth Pryce, data engineer

Gareth Pryce

Data engineer. Twelve years of experience building ETL pipelines and data lakes for retail and logistics clients. Runs our cloud infrastructure and CI/CD workflows.

Nia Bowen, NLP specialist

Nia Bowen

NLP specialist. Built the document-classification system for our Cardiff law-firm client. Fluent in Welsh and English, which helps when working with bilingual datasets from public-sector organisations.

Tom Ashworth, machine learning engineer

Tom Ashworth

Machine learning engineer. Joined in 2022 from a computer-vision startup in Bristol. Handles model training, hyperparameter tuning and deployment pipelines. Obsessed with reproducibility.

2018: Founded

Siân registers Pro AI Counsel as a sole trader in Terry-under-Hayes. First project: a churn-prediction model for a Swansea telecoms reseller. The model identified at-risk customers with 87 % accuracy and helped the client reduce monthly churn by 6 %.

2020: Team grows

Gareth and Nia join. The firm moves into its current office on Doyle Path. Revenue doubles within eight months as word-of-mouth referrals increase across south Wales.

2021: First public-sector contract

We deliver a natural-language processing pipeline for a Welsh local authority, automating the classification of 40,000 resident enquiries per year. Processing time drops from three days to under four hours.

2023: Training programme launches

We run our first five-day AI boot camp for developers at a Bridgend software company. Fourteen participants. Two of them build internal automation tools within a month of completing the course.

2024: Seventh team member

The team reaches seven. We complete our 50th client engagement: a computer-vision quality-inspection system for a Newport electronics manufacturer that reduced defect escape rates by 22 %.
